A significant number of women report not receiving adequate education about menopause, including the symptoms and what to expect. Menopause is often associated with stigma and shame, making women hesitant to discuss their experiences and seek support. Many women are unaware of the range of potential symptoms and the duration of the menopausal transition, which can be several years. While most medical schools now offer some menopause education, some do not, and healthcare professionals may not always be trained to recognise and counsel patients on menopause-related issues.
